I decided to do my final project on Excercise #2, but instead of doing a perfume bottle I decided to make my subject nail polish. I created these images to go in a magazine ad, this is why there is some empty space around the bottles, I wanted there to be room for the words. I showcased each color in a different way and then I showcased them together. My set up was simple, I put the table together then used a glass plate and bowl as the stand for the nail polish. I played around with different color gels to get different background colors. I had the largest box light on my subject and another light on my background.
I chose to do Exercise #3: The Lost World for this photo project. I took this photo series at an abandoned apartment complex in Old Town, Pocatello. This complex was very strange and creepy. It looked like everyone packed up and left as quickly as they could leaving anything not important behind. You could tell people have explored the inside and taken what they wanted. One door was left open but I wasn’t going to go inside by myself so I captured the exterior and surrounding lot.
(Top left) This photo is the walkway to the side entrances of an abandoned apartment complex in old town Pocatello.
(Bottom second from the right) This photo is the street in front of the abandoned apartment complex, it looks small from this angle, but it is very large if you step around the corner.
(Top right) This photo is a close-up of a ladder and broken wiring on the side of the building.
(Bottom right) This photo is a shot of the building through the fence next door capturing the old rustic
(Bottom second from the left) This photo is of a broken utility box next to the building, its much like the rest of the property broken and abandoned.
(Middle right) This photo is the back of the building, you can see the many entrances from this angle.
(Bottom left) This photo is from the alleyway and you can see how each of the windows is boarded up, making the world outside think its empty.
For this assignment, I chose exercise #3, panoramas. My photograph was taken on our class trip. This photograph consisted of 12 pictures stitched together in Photoshop. Due to my position, the fence line caused some problems, but I like the odd effect it created. Another aspect of this photograph I liked is the change of weather. It starts out really dark and cloudy on the left and moved to a brighter, less cloudy sky.
For this assignment I chose exercise #2, working with a team. My team consisted of myself, a make-up artist, and my two models. We got ready in my make-up artist’s apartment before heading to the studio for the shoot. For this assignment, I chose to create a fashion shoot with the theme being the contrast between light & dark.
Thanks for joining me! My name is Kylie Greenwell and I am a student at Idaho State University. I from Great Falls, Montana where I have lived all my life. I have been taking pictures for as long I can remember.
